Layton City adopts ordinance to prohibit cryptocurrency ATMs
Published on March 24, 2026.
The Layton City Council has adopted an ordinance to prohibit the use of cryptocurrency ATMs or bitcoin teller machines within the city limits. This follows an investigation that identified approximately $2 million in fraud-related losses between 2021 and 2025. The law prohibits physical kiosks and requires the removal of existing machines within 60 days. The police department warns against accepting payments using cryptocurrency, particularly if accompanied by urgency, threats, or requests to keep the transaction secret.
