Police in Japan have arrested a 54-year-old city council member for allegedly accepting over $60 million in bribes from Tokyo-based construction giant Maeda Corporation to rig the bidding process for a new city hall. In exchange, he allegedly influenced senior city officials to alter the bidding system and ensure a joint venture involving the company won the lucrative contract to rebuild the damaged Yatsushiro City Hall.
