The Hudson County police officer who chased a man who fell to his death during an interaction with police in 2024 will not face charges for his actions, according to officials from the state Attorney General's Office. The death of Brandon Lee Ortega, 26, was investigated by the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability under a 2019 directive that requires all civilian deaths during an interactions with active law enforcement to be investigated and presented to a state grand jury to determine if charges are necessary. The incident occurred in the area of 68th Street and Bellevue Avenue on Nov. 12, 2024. The police responded to a report of a disturbance and detained one person and reported that another jumped over a railing and was not located.
