Most Ohio electric bills expected to rise soon as data centers drive up costs

Ohio electric customers will see higher monthly bills starting in April, according to the Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC). The changes were approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) and will vary by utility. The OCC warned that the growth of energy-intensive data centers is driving the increase in costs. The commission declined to adopt reforms that the OCC suggested, including a fairer method of allocating transmission costs, lower caps on annual increases, and an end to pilot programs that allow some large customers to avoid paying their full share of these costs.
