The state of Alaska has received federal approval for a plan to award nearly $630 million to modernize internet service across the state. The money is part of the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment program, which aims to bridge the nation's digital divide. The program will extend high-speed internet to over 46,000 homes and businesses in the state, bringing at least 100 megabytes download speeds to areas considered "unserved" or "underserved". The recipients, which range from the state’s largest telecommunications company to small tribal entities, are expected to receive final approval in the coming months. The funding will help complete the build-out of these projects.
