Tesla's retail sales in China fell 16% year-over-year in Q1 2026, with March alone seeing a 24.3% decline from the 74,127 vehicles Tesla sold to Chinese consumers in 2025. Despite several media outlets reporting that Tesla's China numbers were up for the quarter, the company's wholesale numbers, which include vehicles produced at Giga Shanghai and exported to other markets, were misleading. Wholesale sales from Giga were up 23.5% from Q1 2025, but retail sales were down 16.2% from the 134,607 in the previous year. Exports saw a 163.7% increase from Q2 2025, and March exports saw a 529% increase. Tesla's global Q1 202026 deliveries of 358,023 vehicles missed analyst expectations and represented a decline from Q 1 2025. The company's overall share in the Chinese market has been steadily decreasing, with an increasing share of exports as the domestic market becomes tougher.
