Former CDC Scientist Indicted On Fraud Charges Extradited To US

Poul Thorsen, a former CDC researcher, has been extradited to the US from Germany after being indicted on 13 wire fraud counts and nine money laundering counts. The charges stem from false invoices requesting reimbursement for purported research costs. Thorsens allegedly used the funds to fund studies on fetal alcohol syndrome, autism, genetic disorders and infant disabilities. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia stated that Thorshen allegedly used these funds to buy items such as a home, a Harley Davidson, an Audi, a Honda and cashier’s checks.
