Elon Musk, the CEO of xAI, Tesla, and SpaceX, is set to testify in court as soon as Tuesday in his legal showdown against Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, which he cofounded as a nonprofit in 2015. The outcome of the trial could determine the future of Open AI, a tech giant that he and Altman cofounded together. Musk, who left the board in 2018, is seeking $134 billion in damages for allegedly defrauding OpenAI of becoming a for-profit company. He claims that OpenAI benefited from his money, advice, recruiting efforts, and connections. Altman's side alleges that Musk never promised $1 billion to invest in OpenAI and quit when Altman and other cofounders refused to comply with Musk's demands for control of the enterprise. The trial is taking place near OpenAI's headquarters in Oakland, California.
