Richmond bucks "accidental landlord" trend amid hot housing market

Around 1.5% of the 1,000 rental listings listed on Zillow are from "accidental landlords", a type of person who withdraws from the market and rent out their homes to rent them out instead. This trend saw a surge in rental listings in October, with 2.3% of U.S. listings being delisted within three months of being off the market. However, Richmond's real estate market was an outlier in the nationwide trend, posting the 10th-lowest share of listings from these unintentional landlords in October. Texas and Florida had the highest shares of accidental landlords, while Denver led at 4.9%.
