Russia ignores Ukraine's unilateral ceasefire and launches attack on kindergarten

The Russian government has violated Ukraine's unilateral ceasefire on 8 and 9 May, ignoring the ceasefire in an attempt to commemorate Victory Day celebrations. The Ukrainian president accused Russia of carrying out "active hostilities and terrorist shelling", including targeting the front line and launching missiles at civilian areas. Ukraine's foreign minister, Andriy Sybige, stated that Russia's continued aggression shows that Putin's focus is on military parades, not human lives. The Russian defence ministry reported that it had downed 53 Ukrainian drones overnight, but did not specify whether any of them were launched after the ceasefire was implemented.
