The proposal to demolish the Sears building in North Olmsted, Ohio, could lead to a significant transformation of the surrounding property around Great Northern Mall. The proposal involves constructing a new grocery store and gas station on the property detached from the mall and closer to Great Northern Boulevard. While no tenant has been confirmed, the description in city legislation indicates a potential Meijer. The new building would make way for the reworking of the road around the mall. The project could mark the start of a broader evolution for the mall area, with North Omsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones suggesting it could create more of a boulevard feel and allow for new retail or mixed-use buildings. The existing Sears building is owned by R6 Motors, which in 2021 paid $6.55 million for the roughly 159,000-square-foot building and 15.6 acres.
