Houston-based company, Deployable Energy, is aiming to power a nuclear microreactor by July 4 and begin federal testing in Idaho. The company, which is self-funded and with 20 full-time employees, is part of the Department of Energy's new Nuclear Energy Launch Pad program, which aims to help companies move from design to testing and real-world deployment faster. Deployable co-founder and CEO Bobby Gallagher credits Houston's energy supply chain for its ability to deploy a deployable 1 megawatt of power, enough to power about 700 houses. If successful, the company plans to begin commercial deployments by 2028.
