Factors such as social media and dating apps, new cultural norms post-#MeToo, and technological advancements in romantic surrogates like AI companions, sex robots, and platforms like OnlyFans are contributing to this trend. These trends are particularly prevalent among Gen Z as they grew up with technology prior to experiencing sex. The birth control pill may be contributing to the use of SSRIs as it is associated with an increase in mood disorders like depression. However, there is limited knowledge about the long-term effects of these drugs on adolescents' sexual development.
