Steven Spielberg has criticised Timothée Chalamet's comments that "no one cares" about ballet and opera, in an interview ahead of the Oscars 2026. The filmmaker stated that the art forms make a significant impact and that while working in movies and concerts, they should continue. He also encouraged the continued unity between the two art forms, stating that "we want that to be sustained" and "to go forever." Chalamat's comments were made during a town hall event with Matthew McConaughey. The Royal Ballet and Opera responded by saying their influence can be felt across all disciplines.
