The Tax Day is coming, with many of the most common mistakes made by taxpayers who prepare for tax returns. These include unnecessary delays in filing and costly errors such as misspelling your name on your return. The Illinois CPA Society has published a list of common mistakes by individuals who are filing their taxes. The most important form to file is the W-2, the 1099s, which report income not earned directly from an employer. If married couples file separately, their tax benefits may increase significantly. If you have divorced, you may be eligible for head of household status, which also brings tax benefits. The fastest and safest way to receive a refund in 2026 is via direct deposit.
