Women Who Cook, a Twin Cities collective of seven singers and six instrumentalists, have reunited for a Mother's Day gig in Minneapolis. The group, which started out as a theme show on Twin Cities public television in 1982, hasn't performed together since 2002. Singer Prudence Johnson came up with the idea of a reunion concert for Mother’s Day, as these women are mothers, grandmothers, and, in some cases, great-grandmothers. The lineup is remarkably intact except for retirees and the late Jeanne Arland Peterson, the group's matriarch, who died at 91 in 2013. The author shares her personal experiences with the singers, including teaching and maintaining a balanced set of rehearsals for each gig.
