Horned screamers, the official bird of the Department of Arauca and the Municipality of Aracuca in Colombia, have unusual features such as a 6-inch-long horn-like projections on their wings, which are often mistaken for mythical creatures. These birds are large and heavy-bodied, with males and females looking similar. They can be identified as Anhima cornuta (Anhima Cornuta), or the northern screamer and southern screamer. They are closely related to ducks, geese, and swans and are usually found in countries such as Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. The unusual features of these birds include sharp spurs on each wing, which can damage soft flesh and are often used during fights. The birds are non-migratory residents of northern and central South America, often seen roosting in trees and shrubs of wooded riverbanks and wet savannas. They live in groups of semi-social groups and often fight for their food or territory, which they use to defend against intruders. They also generate loud calls from strangers for a group called'screamers', which can generate a loud ‘moo’ when an intruder.
