Strong northeast winds have whipped up waves on Lake Erie, creating ideal conditions for surfers in the fall and winter. Eight surfers gathered at Edgewater Beach in Cleveland to ride the three- to six-foot swells forecasted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The waves, which form differently from ocean swells, are unpredictable and difficult to learn due to their consistency. The water temperatures off Cleveland are currently at 39ºF.
