A bid to offer a one-time bill credit to Metro Water Services customers following Winter Storm Fern narrowly failed before the Metro Nashville Council. The bill, backed by Mayor Freddie O'Connell's office and Metropolitan Water Services, would have applied a one time credit to customers’ bills, with the amount varying between $7.93 and $25.51 depending on whether they pay both water charges and sewer fees. The final vote was 16-18, which required a simple majority of 21 votes to pass. The legislation was filed after city officials urged Nashvillians to drip their faucets to avoid frozen or bursting pipes in the wake of the storm. However, state law requires service credits to be applied across an entire service base, even if their usage was flat.
