Hank Nuwer, a journalism professor based in Indiana, asked an internet stranger, Małgorzata Wróblewska, known as Gosia, to be his European tour guide after previous attempts to visit Poland, the home of his ancestors failed before they could even begin. Nuwer had been attempting to learn Polish for a few years and expanded his Polish LinkedIn network to connect with interesting Polish people. He found Gosia a perfect candidate, having lived in the city all her life and had previously had a limited knowledge of Poland's history. Despite initially being a stranger and unusual request, Hank assured Gosia that he was legitimate and that he could be trusted to guide him around Warsaw.
