Good gerrymandering can’t cure bad gerrymandering

The amendment would allow the state to draw its own House districts. This move is seen as a way to "restore fairness" and counterbalance off-cycle gerrymandering in other states. However, it is not clear that this strategy is effective, as there is no agreement on what a level playing field would look like and it could result in a destructive chain reaction that weakens the voices of voters rather than achieve greater fairness. Critics argue that this attempt to level the national playing field with state-level gerrymander could destroy the health of the political process it's meant to save.
