Gunfire erupted in a Porterville neighborhood after Tulare County sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve an eviction notice to 59-year-old David Eric Morales. This led to a seven-hour standoff that ended when Morales opened fire with a rifle, leading to an officer-involved shooting and a large response from multiple agencies. During the incident, Tulare county Detective Randy Hoppert was shot and later died. The suspect was eventually killed by a vehicle driven by the BearCat.
