President Donald Trump's administration is using the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner to pressure preservationists to drop their lawsuit over a $400 million ballroom project. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has sued to block construction, claiming it poses "extraordinary security challenges for the Secret Service" as its size presents. If the government does not dismiss the lawsuit, it will ask a court to do so. The ballroom, which Trump plans to build, is expected to fit 999 people and is funded by private donations, although public funds are also being used for security upgrades. Following the shooting, President Donald Trump, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, and several supporters of the administration have pushed for the project.
