LI Leaders Tackle Cost Of Living, Housing, Taxes At LIA Event

At a public conversation between U.S. Reps. Nick LaLota, Andrew Garbarino, Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen, the acting president and CEO of the Long Island Association of the Legislative Association of New York City (LIA) held a public discussion about the increasing cost of living, housing costs, property taxes, utilities, and everyday expenses. The discussion was moderated by Stacey Sikes, the LIA’s acting president. While the lawmakers agreed that affordability pressure is real, differing on the causes and solutions. The SALT deduction, a federal policy that allows taxpayers to deduct state and local taxes, including property taxes from their federal income, was a major topic of discussion. Other issues included immigration policy, offshore wind, solar and natural gas projects, and energy policy.
