The Dutch-flagged MV Hondius, which is tied to a deadly hantavirus outbreak, is currently under quarantine in several countries, including the United States. Over 120 passengers and crew members were evacuated from the ship in Spain’s Canary Islands earlier this week. At least 18 people in the U.S. are currently under observation. The company, Oceanwide Expeditions, is awaiting official guidance before confirming future sailings. The ship is currently sailing to Rotterdam in the Netherlands with 25 crew members, two health workers and the body of one passenger who died. The outbreak is believed to have originated before the cruise began, after infected passengers may have been exposed to rodents during a bird-watching excursion.
