Businesses are beginning filing for tariff refunds following the Supreme Court's ruling that the tariffs from President Donald Trump's International Emergency Economic Powers Act were imposed without constitutional authority. The first phase of a new claims system allows importers to seek repayment from tariffs collected under the IEEPA. The court found that more than 330,000 importers paid duties on more than 53 million shipments, totalling roughly $166 billion. The money will have a significant impact on the industry, with Jaime Chamberlain, owner of produce wholesaler Chamberlain Distributing, stating that while the duties were paid, consumers should not expect lower prices in the coming months, the refund process will take 60 to 90 days.
