Artemis II will reach moon Monday, with ‘lunar loo’ on the fritz
Published on April 6, 2026.
The Artemis II astronauts, three Americans and one Canadian, are set to reach the moon on Monday with the first moon-bound crew in over 53 years. The astronauts are preparing for a historic lunar fly-around, which will allow them to explore the lunar far side. However, their toilet malfunctioned again, causing engineers to install more backup urine collection bags. The Apollo program deputy manager, Debbie Korth, said the astronauts have reported a smell coming from the toilet. The mission is set to set a distance record for humans, traveling more than 252,000 miles from Earth before heading home without stopping or entering lunar orbit. The Canadian Space Agency celebrated the country's role in the mission with astronaut Jeremy Hansen, the first non-U.S. citizen to fly to the moon.
