A new study by the University of Oxford has found that masturbation can provide a significant boost to male fertility. The researchers compared 115 human studies involving 54,889 men and 56 studies across 30 animal species to see how sperm quality was affected. They found that skipping ejaculation significantly impacted sperm quality, which swam more slowly, fewer were healthy and alive, and their DNA showed more damage. The findings suggest that using freshly ejaculated sperm for fertilization could boost fertility outcomes by improving sperm quality. The study also found that frequent ejaculation from masturbation improves sperm quality in mammals like primates. The research could have significant implications for fertility clinics, as it suggests men may not need to follow the typical recommendation of abstaining from sex or masturbation for several days.
