Golf player Gary Woodland has struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder from brain surgery and has broken down in tears on the course. Woodland underwent a craniotomy in fall of 2023, removing a benign lesion from his brain, which was responsible for anxiety and panic attacks and made him hypervigilant during the day. He returned to the golf course 115 days after his surgery to play at the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2024, but continued to experience fear, anxiety, and overstimulation. He was diagnosed with PTSD in March 2025, a mental health condition caused by a stressful or terrifying event. Two weeks after revealing his struggles in an emotional interview, Woodland won his first PGA victory in seven years.
