The Detroit Tigers are aiming to win their first World Series since 1984, with ace and two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal set for free agency after the season. The Tigers' season opener against San Diego is set to feature a significant shift in the team's fortunes. Rookie Kevin McGonigle, who was drafted as the No. 37 overall in the 2023 draft out of high school, is expected to play at shortstop and third base. Despite not being a sure-fire prospect, he impressed scouts with his performance this spring and hit 70 times in 52 plate appearances.
