HPD commander demoted for allegedly sharing details of teen sex assault victim

Honolulu Police Department (HPD) commander, Ryan Nishibun, has been demoted for allegedly sharing confidential information about a teen sexual assault victim, including the girl's name and personal details. The information was given to a friend and ended up on social media. Retired HPD Deputy Chief John McCarthy described the conduct as particularly egregious as the victim is a minor. An internal administrative investigation has been launched, and Nishibon may face additional consequences once the case is concluded.
