Austin FC (ATXFC) began their season with a 3-1 loss to Charlotte FC, but the team is facing a difficult three-game stretch. The team's star striker, Brandon Vázquez, is expected to be out for at least a month due to knee surgery, and Owen Wolff's recovery from a core muscle procedure is uncertain. The refereeing controversy also played a role in the game, with Guilherme Biro receiving a straight red card for a step on Charlotte's Idan Toklomati, and Liel Abada receiving a similar punishment for an elbow to the face of Nico Dubersarsky. Additionally, Dani Pereira and Jayden Nelson are also dealing with hamstring injuries. The mandatory one-game suspension for Biro is also expected to impact the team's performance.
