A poll commissioned by a progressive coalition has found that Democratic and independent voters in Chicago and the suburbs are more likely to vote for candidates who oppose Immigration Enforcement (ICE). The poll also found that 90% of Democrats and independents had an unfavorable view of ICE, while 75% of respondents in Chicago had an overall unfavorable view. Nearly two-thirds of respondents said they would be more inclined to support a candidate who has been involved in anti-ICE protests. The survey of 800 registered voters was conducted by Hands Off Chicago, a coalition of progressive community groups including the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, Equality Illinois, and the Chicago Federation of Labor. The results will be seen as a test for whether campaign messaging about fighting ICE has worked in the upcoming primary elections.
