The City of Lorain is leading a major waterfront redevelopment effort in Lorain, Ohio, with construction at the former Pellet Terminal site nearing completion and ongoing work at the Hot Waters Public Boat Launch. The project involves replacing roughly 50 acres of former industrial land at the confluence of the Black River and Lake Erie with commercial, recreational and public access improvements. The city received over $4 million from the Ohio Department of Development and an additional $1.7 million in local funding for site access, restrooms, and lighting upgrades. The Pellet terminal Remediation and Redevelopment Project includes environmental cleanup of more than 20 acres of contaminated land and infrastructure improvements intended to support future development.
