Mitchell L. H. Douglas, a National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellow and Indiana University Indianapolis associate professor, has released his fourth poetry collection, "Universal Corner," on March 3. The collection explores the intersection of music, memory and humanity through the lens of punk and hip-hop cultures. Douglas is considered a prominent voice of the urban Midwest and identifies strongly with urban environments rather than rural settings. The title “Universal Corner” is derived from a song by the punk band X. For the first time in his career, Douglas used his own visual art for the book's cover, which was previously displayed as a large-scale installation at the Indianapolis International Airport’s B concourse between 2024 and early 2025 following a collaboration with the Indy Arts Council.
