Analysis: Nashville could be in for a competitive mayor's race

Nashita Mayor Freddie O'Connell, who won the 2023 election on the strength of progressive support, has indicated he intends to run for reelection in 2027. However, he has not officially announced his reelection bid. Two recent polls show O’Connell with higher than 50% approval, while at least half of Nashvillians think the city is heading in the wrong direction. The uncertainty is over whether O‘Connell has secured the progressive support that boosted him to his 2023 victory. He has a large financial backing and a legacy political accomplishment in the Choose How to Move transportation funding campaign. Additionally, there is speculation that state Rep. John Ray Clemmons may run for mayor again.
