Alan Cumming, Bowen Yang Help Launch Necessary Foundation to Support LGBTQ Filmmakers

The Necessary Foundation has been launched by Alan Cumming, Bowen Yang, Lena Waithe and Adam Goldman as founding board members. The non-profit aims to offer financing and other opportunities to help LGBTQ+ filmmakers establish themselves in the entertainment industry. It will provide grants of $20,000 to early-career filmmakers and offer mentorship from established filmmakers. Additional support will include sponsoring festival submission fees and setting up screenings in New York and Los Angeles. Despite recent decreases in onscreen representation due to Hollywood pulling back on initiatives supporting LGBTQ+ projects and filmmakers.
