Suspect Accused Of $1 Million Small Business Loan Scam In Fairfield: Police

A 25-year-old man from Flushing, New York, Malik Z. Smith has been charged with first-degree larceny for allegedly defrauding a resident out of $1 million in a small business loan scam. The scam began in March 2024 after the victim was contacted about a loan affiliated with the Small Business Administration. Initial payments totalled $150,000, but the losses escalated significantly as the fraud continued. Police have since identified Smith and others as the individuals receiving funds from the scheme.
