New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno's administration has fallen short of its weekly goal of filling 15,000 potholes on streets. In March, Moreno stated that her Department of Public Works would aim to fill 1,500 pothholes a week, and that the city had already filled roughly 5,000. However, it has been 15 weeks since Moreno set the goal. The city has repaired an average of 675 pothole per week since Moreno's announcement. Moreno said the department is focusing resources on road repair and has hired more than 20 new Department Of Public Works employees to assist in the effort. Public Works director Steve Nelson said he believes the city can exceed the goal by the end of the year.
