A major bill addressing low pay for Florida high school coaches, SB 538, has passed through the Legislature and will now go to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for his signature. The House passed the bill in a 104-6 vote and the Senate passed it again 37-0 after amendments were made. This is the first step towards addressing the disparity in high school coaching pay. High school football head coaches in Florida earn between $3,038 and $8,317 per year. The bill author, Rep. Adam Anderson (R-Palm Harbor), cosponsor of the House bill, urges school districts to come to the table to help boost coaching pay and implement policies that can support them. The legislation is not official until it is signed by Gov. DeSantas.
