Waymo, a self-proclaimed "autonomous vehicle company," has reported that it provides 500,000 paid robotaxi rides a week, a significant growth compared to its human-driven counterparts. However, the rapid growth in these rides, new markets, and fleet size could pose new challenges. Senior reporter Sean O’Kane found that when robots get stuck, the company relies on taxpayer-funded public services to move its vehicles for it. This issue is not just a concern for other companies, including Motional and Zoox, which are also hoping to deploy paid robotaxis in the U.S. this year.
