California Gov. Gavin Newsom is being accused of corruption for paying $20 million in taxpayer money to a nonprofit led by his wife, Siliebel Newsom, who also sits on the board of his wife's organization, Baby2Baby. The initiative, "Golden State Start," aims to provide free diapers to newborns through hospitals across the state. Critics have questioned the selection process, the financial ties to the nonprofit, and the cost of the initiative. The state has committed roughly $20m to the program, including $7.4m already approved and another $12.5m proposed in the 2026–2027 budget cycle.
