French President Emmanuel Macron has urged high school students to switch off their phones and read, calling for a one "no screens day" per month for all and a blanket social media ban for those under 15 years old. This comes as a draft bill is being pushed through parliament to establish a ban for such individuals. However, while the lower house has voted for a blanket ban, senators want to restrict access only for platforms deemed harmful for children. This could jeopardise Macron's goal to have the new legislation in place for the start of the new academic year in September.
