Google is launching a Search Console setting that allows users to remove content from AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Discover's AI features without leaving Search. This change has been required by regulators in the UK to comply with this requirement. The setting, which lives under Settings in Search Console, removes content from these features and does not affect regular results. However, it does not override separate choices in Merchant Center or Google Ads, nor does AI training. The move was born through a regulator and product team working on the same problem simultaneously. The UK's Competition and Markets Authority has imposed a conduct requirement requiring Google to give websites more control over how their content is used in generative AI.
