Reps. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) and Mike Collins, former college football coach Derek Dooley, former Senate candidate John Coyne, and retired Brig. Gen. Jonathan McColumn, are competing for the Republican nomination in Georgia's Senate primary against Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), who is seen as a strong contender for President Trump's possible endorsement. During the debate, Carter criticized Collins over a House Ethics Committee probe into allegations that his congressional office hired an intern who had a relationship with Collins' then-chief of staff and did not perform any work for the House Republican. The Office of Congressional Conduct (OCC) also alleged that Collins and Brandon Phillips, now a top aide for Collins' campaign, may have used congressional resources for unauthorized purposes. Carter has been hit with two Federal Elections Commission (FEC) ethics complaints over the years, including a probe into whether he illegally transferred money from his state account to other conduits and transferred funds to his congressional campaign account.
