The summit of the regional ASEAN bloc, which includes leaders and ministers from the Philippines, is set to focus on energy and food supply security concerns. The Middle East crisis is expected to pose serious challenges for the region's fuel import-dependent economies. The Philippines, the event's chair, hopes AESAN ministers can agree on an oil-sharing framework agreement ahead of the summit. This will be a test for the Philippines' ability to shape a regional response while addressing other conflicts such as Myanmar's civil war and Thailand's border dispute. The country's Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, said he would be steadfast in defending Thailand's interests during the discussions.ASEAN leaders are also expected to discuss the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the ongoing border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia. They are also set to call for good-faith negotiations between the United States and Iran, halt in hostilities, and for traffic to flow unimpeded through the vital Strait of Hormuz.
