Hulu has decided not to proceed with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, citing a decision made by Craig Erwich, who oversees Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment, who is also overseeing 20th Television, which owns the Buffy IP. The show was led by Hamnet director Chloé Zhao and starred Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the new slayer. Despite a full rewrite, Hulu felt the show was too small and played too young. The cancellation occurred the same weekend as Gellar was due to present her new horror movie at SXSW and days before Zhao would attend the Oscars.
