Severe Weather Preparedness Week has begun in Kansas and Missouri, with Johnson County Emergency Management urging residents to prepare for severe weather. The primary focus is on establishing a family meeting place, knowing evacuation routes, and having an emergency kit ready. For a tornado, residents should shelter in the most interior, lowest level, and stay away from windows. An emergency kit should include food, clothing, and water, with enough food and water for at least 72 hours for each household. The rest of the week will include an annual Notify JoCo test and a statewide tornado drill.
