Carlsbad City Council is set to discuss a range of local issues, including authorizing agreements with the County of San Diego to place ballot drop boxes at city facilities for the 2026 and subsequent elections. An ordinance would allow the city to issue citations and fines for fireworks violations, which would involve a $1,000 fine per violation, with a maximum penalty of $10,000 per day. The new fireworks ordinance would question the property owner, whether or not they were present for the illegal fireworks launch. The city manager, Geoff Patnoe, stated that this approach balances deterrence, fairness and operational practicality to reduce repeat violations and improve community safety. The council will also consider adding administrative penalties to fireworks violations.
