The US Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut has recovered and forfeited over $600,000 worth of cryptocurrency from a fraud scheme targeting Ledger hardware wallet users. The victim, a Connecticut resident, received a fraudulent letter claiming to be from Ledger Security & Compliance, instructing him to perform a mandatory security check, which led to the theft of $234,000 in cryptocurrency. The FBI and state police traced the funds to the stolen funds, which was claimed to be the proceeds of wire fraud and money laundering. This is part of a trend of phishing incidents targeting crypto hardware wallets, particularly targeting rival companies Trezor and Ledger.
